I just got banned from Google on my home pc.
Now that’s frustrating. I use Firefox and the SEO Toolbar to check out the statistics of websites that I visit. I never thought that it would get me banned from Google but at this very moment of writing this post, I cannot search Google.
“We’re sorry…
… but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can’t process your request right now.”
Bah! I don’t wanna hear sorry. I want search results and lots of them.
Everything in Moderation
Well, my mistake was I changed my search preferences to return 100 search results. Normally this is not a problem but my SEO Toolbar had the Google Plugin turned on.
What the Google Plugin does is return statistics on all of the search results. So for 100 results, it bombarded Google for the Page Rank, number of indexed pages for the domain, internal links, and external links.
So Google doesn’t like it when you ask too many questions at one. As you can tell from the message returned “sending automated queries” Google thought I was a bot. A computer program designed to query Google for information. Google was right as the Firefox add-on SEO Toolbar was querying Google multiple times for every search result.
Note To Self
Turn off SEO Toolbar when returning more than 10 search results at a time. The SEO Toolbar is very handy for when I do search engine optimization for In Toronto Web Design (GeekPower) but as I found out it can cause problems.
Well, I still haven’t gotten search capabilities back so I guess I’ll have to see what I got bookmarked. I could try using another search engine but I’d rather not.
